Food Assistance/SNAP

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a program designed to raise nutritional levels and raise the well-being of individuals in low-income households. To qualify for the SNAP program a household’s gross income (income before expenses and taxes) needs to meet the standard of 130% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Fraud Information

Darke County Department of Job and Family Services & the Darke County Sheriff’s Office are committed to investigating allegations of Food Assistance fraud. Food Assistance fraud is when benefits are exchanged for cash. Fraud also happens when someone lies on their application to obtain benefits they are not eligible to receive. Stores can commit fraud by selling alcohol, tobacco or other non-approved items in exchange for Food Assistance benefits.
